Stories, itineraries, and tips from our trip specialists — built around a good stay, a set of wheels, and the food worth ordering twice. Take the long way. It's worth it.

Catskills cabin

Catskills · 2 Nights · Spring

The slow weekend.

A wood-paneled cabin two hours north of the city, a roadster at the end of the driveway, and nowhere to be until Monday morning. The Catskills reward the driver who lingers — farm stands, swimming holes, an old inn where everyone still eats at one long table.

Where to stay: The Henson · Phoenicia
What to drive: Jeep Wrangler 4xe
What to eat: Phoenicia Diner for pancakes, then dinner at the cabin.

"The drive itself is the destination."

Lisbon · 3 Nights · Late Spring

The city, well done.

Seven hills, three trams, one river — and a thousand small places where the espresso is strong and the pastéis de nata are still warm. Lisbon is best walked, but a tiny car on day three lets you chase the coast to Cascais and back in time for sunset.

Where to stay: Hotel Casa Cipriani · Chiado
What to drive: Fiat 500 Cabrio
What to eat: A tasca in Alfama for the bacalhau, then a tiny sushi counter on Rua da Rosa.

"Lisbon doesn't try to impress you. It just waits for you to notice."

Lisbon streets
Amalfi coast

Amalfi · 4 Nights · Summer

The coast is calling.

Wake up by the sea and follow the open road. From Positano down to Vietri sul Mare, every kilometre has a view you can taste — lemon granita at the bend, anchovy pasta at the harbor, a glass of Falanghina at the end of the day.

Where to stay: A small hotel above Praiano
What to drive: MINI Cooper S for tight curves
What to eat: Da Vincenzo — order the catch of the day, no menu needed.

"Drive slow. The sea is not going anywhere."
